Durango 9-R Food Services - Building New Partnerships to Deepen Community Connections

Durango School District 9-R Food Services stays true to their core value of creating a healthy food environment to support student achievement through local food partnerships. In addition to a robust farm to school program that supports local beef and agriculture, the school district works with local small businesses to provide products to students that help support healthy habits for students eating at school. Although there are multiple partners, this article will highlight just three businesses that are contributing to the community through our 2019-2020 food programming in schools.

How are Academics Going at 9-R?

State assessments are one of the many tools utilized by teachers and district staff to gain an understanding on how each student is progressing toward competency. Before we can understand how students are achieving, it is important to define what competency is. There are set expectations for what students should know and understand before progressing through the pk-12 system and achieving the ultimate goal of a diploma. The Colorado Department of Education sets these competencies through its various subject standards for each grade level, and districts and teachers set the pace with students on when those milestones will be achieved.

Leadership 9-R Session Thursday, September 18, 2019

On Thursday, September 19, we start our series of sessions called Leadership 9-R. This is an opportunity to learn more about the overall operation of the district, what is the strategic plan, how do we spend resources in support of students, and how do the various departments operate in support of our students. More importantly, it is an opportunity to provide input and feedback to ensure we are the best that we can be. This first session is being offered twice.

After-school Activities Continue as Scheduled Today

Thanks to our families who planned around the snow and made it safely to school and work. While the weather continues, road conditions do not warrant any closures for after-school activities today. We are planning all after-school activities as scheduled. Thank you and drive safely!

READ to Succeed

State Board Reprentative Joyce Rankin will be in Durango to explain the READ Act and how it can transform education for all k-3 students. She will be at Needham Elementary on September 18, 2019 from 5:30-6:30.

Two School Board Seats Available

The County Clerk has been notified that Durango School District 9-R will be participating in the coordinated election in November.  The Board of Education will have two four-year seats up for election --- District B (currently filled by Stephanie Moran), and District D (currently filled by Marianna Valdez).
