Pediatric Partners of the Southwest To Provide Medical Oversight of DHS School-Based Health Clinic

Pediatric Partners of the Southwest will assume operations as the medical provider for the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at Durango High School effective July 1, 2019.


The School-Based Health Centers have been a partnership between Durango School District 9-R and Axis Health System (AHS) for the last 12 years. AHS and 9-R worked closely over the years to develop the SBHC model of supports and services for students and youth in the area, providing high-quality and accessible healthcare to La Plata County. Pediatric Partners of the Southwest (PPSW) is well positioned to assume the medical sponsorship and direct health care services at the Durango High School SBHC.

Durango School District 9-R Announces New Athletic Director

After an extensive search and several great candidates, Durango School District 9-R has identified a new District Athletic Director (DAD) in Ryan Knorr. Knorr will take the place of current AD, Adam Bright, who after 3 (three) years with the district is moving on to serve as a assistant commissioner with CHSSA.

Schools Open, Drive with Caution

The following is a non-emergency message to all parents, staff, and students in Durango School District 9-R. Due to the unforeseen weather conditions in our area, we want to caution parents regarding travel this morning. While our schools will be open today, Monday, November 12, 2018 we encourage parents to make appropriate decisions regarding their students and attendance today. Staff are encouraged to be cautious on their travels in, state and local plows are sparse at this time, and a number of roads appear to be closed. We apologize for the short notice, this weather system caught many by surprise. More updates will be provided if conditions change. DHS Band Headed to State

When the Durango High School Marching Band takes the field, they reach for the sky. This fall the band traveled to Grand Junction to compete in the CBA Colorado West Marching Invitational where they received 1st place in 3A. This is the first time the DHS band has placed 1st at this festival in over 20 years. They kept the momentum going as they took 2nd place at regionals on October 18th.

Student IDs

Students will be issued IDs again this year. New 2018/19 IDs will be distributed following your school’s Fall picture day. IDs issued last year should be used in lieu of the new IDs until the new photos and IDs are produced. These IDs are important for safety and security, allow access to bus transportation services, can be used with City Transit and are required for school library use.
